Earlier this year we were thrilled to welcome three community leaders to Cone Health Foundation’s Board and to welcome a former chair back to the Board.

Cone Health Foundation is excited to announce that Darius Graham has joined the organization as the new President, effective July 27. A North Carolina native, Graham brings a deep appreciation for the community served by Cone Health Foundation and a commitment to listening and collaboration.

As Cone Health Foundation prepares for a leadership transition, we sat down with outgoing President, Susan Shumaker, to reflect on her 16 years at the Foundation and more than four decades in the health system.

Capacity building is not just about the operations of an organization today–it’s an investment in the growth and effectiveness of the organization into the future, ultimately allowing these organizations to scale their engagement with the communities they serve.

It is with mixed emotions that Susan Shumaker is announcing her retirement. At the end of March of 2026, she will be stepping away from her position as president of Cone Health Foundation.
