Interfaith Affordable Housing Initiative (IHI) brings together faith communities and congregations to learn, connect, advocate for, and provide affordable housing for those who are experiencing homelessness or living in temporary housing in Guilford County, guided by shared faith principles that call on us to love their neighbor.

IHI has been working with multiple partners throughout the county to effectively support communities. According to information obtained from the North Carolina Homeless Education Program website (2026), “During the 2024-2025 school year, North Carolina public schools reported 39,248 students enrolled in grades PK-12 as experiencing homelessness.”

Partnering with Guilford County Schools Office of Homeless Services and Community Support to identify and support families experiencing homelessness, IHI responded by organizing and mobilizing faith congregations in Greensboro to collect and provide financial assistance. Additionally, IHI partners with the Pathways Center through the Greensboro Urban Ministry and the Greensboro YWCA/YMCA to support families moving out of their transitional housing into permanent housing.

A recent recipient of a CHF Capacity Building Grant, IHI is making progress to scale-up their work. They are currently evaluating new sites forpotential housing projects and embarking on a new strategic plan to accomplish new goals in response to community needs. We are honored to support the vision of IHI as they increase their capacity to finish their project of building affordable housing in southeast Greensboro.
