Cone Health Foundation wants to express our heartfelt gratitude to Board members Ross Harris, Kim Gatling, and Dr. Kelly Leggett, who recently completed their terms. Their leadership, dedication, and vision have been instrumental in advancing our mission and making a lasting impact on our organization and community.

We asked each member what they were most proud of from their time with CHF.  And a favorite accomplishment or inspiration during their years as a Board Member.  Here are their responses:

Ross Harris:

Where do I start? I think I am most proud of the many ways this organization improves the overall health of this community. We are recognized as a real leader in Greensboro and have been for decades. Our work on expanding Medicaid is a real highlight as well. It has been an honor to have been part of this organization, and I will miss it! My favorite accomplishment was working with Pyramid Communications and staff on the new CHF visual brand and website.  I was glad to have the experience and expertise to help on this project. The result is excellent!

Kim Gatling:

I am proud of how our board has evolved over the past ten years, in terms of being intentional about increasing our equity IQ, understanding the role of equity in social drivers of health, and standing strong on those principles even when the social-political landscape has made it tough. I was inspired when North Carolina finally passed Medicaid Expansion because I knew the important role CHF played in assessing the state-wide economic impact and how hard CHF worked to advocate for expansion for over a decade. It is great to see the fruits of that labor.

Kelly Leggett, MD:

In 2015 when I joined the Board, CHF was adopting a new strategic plan, including teen pregnancy prevention strategies. As an OB/GYN and the Medical Director over Women’s Services, I supported CHF staff, clinicians, and community partners to expand access to effective, age-appropriate sexual health care. Over the years, the teen pregnancy rate dropped significantly, which was a proud moment for CHF and our community.
