At the heart of Greensboro’s diverse communities, PGFC is more than just a soccer organization; it’s a vibrant organization dedicated to inspiring youth through the love of soccer and healthy living. Serving primarily low-income, Latino, and diverse youth in Greensboro, PGFC’s programs strengthen leadership development, improve health outcomes, and increase educational opportunities.

PGFC’s mission is to reduce screen time and get kids moving by developing their skills and inspiring them to pursue education, discipline, and mental resilience through soccer.

Understanding the economic hurdles many families face, PGFC works closely with parents and caregivers to open doors to quality sports programs that might otherwise be out of reach. The organization is committed to fostering a sense of belonging while tackling health and educational disparities through physical activity, mentorship, and resource connections.

Raising the trophyGuided by a dedicated volunteer board of directors who also serve as coaches and mentors, PGFC currently operates 16 teams ranging in age from 6 to 60 years old. Many of the adult players are parents of the younger participants, creating a strong sense of familial connection within the club.

While many young players face challenges, such as lack of transportation, mental health support, and access to health care services like primary care and sports physicals, PGFC helps bridge these gaps by connecting them to the resources they need.

PGFC’s innovative “buddy system,” pairs teens with younger players to foster leadership and deepen community bonds. PGFC also promotes girls’ participation in soccer, takes part in local parades, and supports families facing housing and food insecurity. They also support players to earn income by connecting them to referee certification programs and apprenticeships with local businesses, supporting their economic mobility.

Looking ahead, PGFC’s leadership remains committed to building a stronger foundation for mentorship, economic mobility, and community engagement, ensuring every child has the tools to succeed both on and off the field. The organization is working to secure fields and equipment and expand partnerships with local parks and recreation departments to increase accessibility and provide more students the opportunity to play soccer.

PGFC’s journey is a testament to the power of sport to transform lives. Through soccer, mentorship, and community support, they are creating pathways to a healthier, more equitable future for Greensboro’s next generation.
