Yazmin Garcia Rico, Director of Community Engagement and Impact, joined the Foundation in May 2024. Throughout her career, she has been a tireless advocate for the Hispanic/Latinx and historically marginalized populations in North Carolina through different roles in the nonprofit, health, and government sector. Born in México and raised in Alamance County, Yazmin draws on her lived experience navigating complex systems as an undocumented immigrant who later benefited from Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), and eventually became a permanent resident and a naturalized U.S. citizen to inform her work advocating for those at the margin. Yazmin comes to the Foundation after serving as the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services’ (NCDHHS) Director of Hispanic/Latinx Policy and Strategy for the last three years. Yazmin earned her Bachelor’s degree from Guilford College in 2011 and graduated in 2018 from UNC Chapel Hill, with a Master of Social Work with a community, management and policy practice concentration.

Jamilla Pinder, Director of Community Engagement and Impact, joined the Foundation in June 2022. This role deepens our ability to hear and respond operationally to historically marginalized communities and grantees more effectively. Jamilla brings over twenty years of experience with Cone Health to the Foundation. Throughout her career, she has taken on ever-growing responsibilities and demonstrated a fierce commitment to community change. She graduated from North Carolina A&T State University with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Environmental Systems – Agribusiness Management. Recently, she completed the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Culture of Health Leaders program, which prepares leaders to address health equity in their communities by providing transformative leadership.

Susan Fitzgibbon Shumaker, RN, MHA, FACHE, has served as president of Cone Health Foundation since 2009. Susan earned Master of Health Administration and Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees from Duke University and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Susan served as president of Annie Penn Hospital in Reidsville, North Carolina, for twenty years before joining the Foundation. A nurse, Susan enjoys volunteering with historically marginalized populations.

Vicki Walker, finance and grants manager, joined the Foundation in 2012. Prior to joining the Foundation, Vicki spent 20 years at Annie Penn Hospital, where she served as the executive assistant to the president. She is responsible for the management of the Foundation’s grants processes, and for reporting and reconciling the Foundation finances. Vicki has a bachelor’s degree in business education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Tracey Webster joined the Foundation in 2015 as senior executive assistant. In this role, Tracey provides administrative support to the Foundation staff and oversees accounts payable as well as other duties. Prior to joining the Foundation, Tracey served as senior executive assistant in the Health Services Division of Cone Health.

Christina Yongue, MPH, MCHES, Director of Community Engagement and Impact, joined the Foundation in June 2024. She was formerly the Director of Undergraduate Studies and an Associate Professor in the Department of Public Health Education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Christina earned her Master of Public Health and Bachelor of Science degrees concentrating in Community Health Education from UNCG and has been a member of the Greensboro Health Disparities Collaborative for over 16 years. She has managed research studies, funded by the National Institutes of Health, which eliminated a racial disparity for cancer patients through a community-based participatory research approach. She continues to focus on health and racial equity by participating in research, such as projects addressing maternal and infant mortality. Christina is a co-coordinator for the Social Justice and Advocacy Ministry at her church and previously served on the Cone Health Foundation Board.
